The Best Indoor Drones – Indoor Quadcopter Reviews & Comparison

If the weather is calling for rain or snow and you were looking forward to a day of flying your drone in the sun, fear not, you can still get some flight time in! There are plenty of awesome indoor drones for sale that will scratch your flight itch when the weather is crappy.

The general flying rule of thumb where the weather is concerned is that you shouldn’t fly a drone in weather reaching below -5 degrees Celsius and/or 23 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on where you live.

When looking for the best indoor drone there are a couple of aspects you’ll want to look into. For example, how small of a drone are you looking for, and do you want one that is made for both indoor and outdoor flight? Having a budget in mind will work for you, too. Thankfully, however, indoor drones come pretty cheap, usually under $200.

To save you time in looking for the best indoor quadcopter, I’ve compiled a list of my top 5 favorites for you to choose from. All of these drones are capable and designed to fly indoors, which means you won’t have to worry about following any laws or regulations since you’ll be flying them in the comfort of your own home!

The 5 Best Indoor Drones Reviews

Now that we’ve covered the basics and essentials, let’s get straight to the best indoor drone reviews!

Altair Aerial AA108

The AA108 by Altair Aerial is my favorite choice for the best indoor drone you could buy. It’ll cost you around $130, which is quite a bargain in my honest opinion. It’s a drone that’s designed for both indoor and outdoor use, which makes it great for flight whether the forecast calls for rain or shine!

  • Uses a premium 720p HD 120-degree wide-angle camera with real-time video streaming
  • Able to fly in FPV with goggles (not included)
  • Has a total flight time of up to 10 minutes, doubled by the second battery included for free
  • Features Headless Mode, Altitude Hold, 1-Button Takeoff, 1-Button Landing, Out of Range Alarm, Emergency Landing Function, Low Battery Alarm, Custom Route Mode, and 3 Flight Skill Modes
  • Has a transmission range of up to 100 meters and a video transmission range of between 40 to 50 meters
  • Takes a 3.7V 350mAh LiPo battery
  • What I like most about the AA108 by Altair Aerial, features and flight aspects aside, is the extras that it comes with. You get a total of 2 batteries and charging only takes about an hour. It can also take quite the beating, which is something you’re going to need in an indoor drone.

What I don’t like, unfortunately, is that it doesn’t come with a memory or SIM card, so you’ll have to purchase that separately. Altair Aerial recommends a 4 GB microSDHC Class 10 UHS-1 memory card, however, which aren’t all that difficult to find.

    Holy Stone HS170 Predator

The HS170 Predator by Holy Stone is one of my favorite indoor drone budget buys, coming in at a small price of only $40. Like the AA108, it’s also designed for indoor and outdoor flight so you can use it no matter the weather.

  • Features a Headless Security System, 3 Speed Modes, Anti-Interference technology, Wind-Resistant Control, 3D Flip & Roll and Headless Mode
  • Uses a 2.4GHz transmission system with up to 4 channels
  • Has a transmission range of between 30 to 50 meters
  • Uses a 6-axis gyro stabilization system
  • Has a total flight time of between 6 to 8 minutes
  • Uses colorful LED lights on the front and the back for low visibility and night flight
  • Takes a 3.7V 350mAh LiPo battery
  • I love the HS170 Predator by Holy Stone because it’s very affordable and offers quite a few features for what you’re paying. Because of the price, it’s one of the best indoor quadcopter to go with. If you crash it over and over and it breaks, no hard feelings because it only cost you $40, right?

Unfortunately, this indoor drone doesn’t come with a camera, which is a little disappointing, but I can see why Holy Stone made it without one.

    Altair 818 Hornet

The U818PLUS by DROCON is an awesome indoor FPV drone that has an impressive amount of features and extras for only $110. You’re able to fly this one both indoors and outside, as well!

  • Has a 720p HD wide-angle camera with WiFi FPV real-time transmission, 1280x720p HD videos and 2MP still photos
  • Features Altitude Hold, Headless Mode, Emergency Stop, Low Power Alarm, Out of Range Alarm, Still Photography Modes, Single Shot, Custom Flight Route, 3D View Mode, One-Button Takeoff and One-Button Landing
  • Has a total flight time of 15 minutes
  • Takes a 7.4V 1000mAh LiPo battery
  • Has a maximum WiFi transmission distance of 60 meters when outdoors
  • What I love about the U818PLUS by DROCON is the fact that it comes with a 1-year warranty and technical support. It also comes with a 4 GB TF card for storing your photos and video footage and a card reader, as well!

I must say, though, I’m not a big fan of the maximum WiFi transmission distance. DROCON is also unclear as to what the regular maximum transmission range is if you’re flying it inside or using it without WiFi FPV outside.

    Tenergy TDR Phoenix

The TDR Phoenix by Tenergy is another awesome budget-friendly indoor drone. You’ll only have to pay $40, just like the Holy Stone drone we covered earlier, and is an overall perfect buy for beginners who want a simple indoor drone without a ton of extensive features and specs.

  • Features Auto Hovering, 3 Speed Modes and One-Key Stunt Moves
  • Has a 720p HD camera
  • Uses a 6-axis gyro stabilization system
  • Has a modular battery design with a hard case that eliminates exposed wires for better flight time and battery durability
  • Takes a 3.7V 380mAh LiPo battery
  • Has a maximum transmission range of up to 40 meters or 130 feet
  • The TDR Phoenix by Tenergy is the perfect indoor drone for beginners. It has 3 different speed modes to learn and grow with. The cost makes it a throwaway drone in case you beat it up too much, which is a great plus.

Like the Altair Aerial drone, you will have to supply your own memory card. Tenergy recommends that you purchase a Micro SD card up to 32 GB, but you can make the choice as to how much storage you plan on needing yourself. It’s also not recommended to fly this drone in windy weather, or just keep it inside altogether.

    Force1 U45W Blue Jay

The U45W Blue Jay by Force1 can be yours for as little as $100. It’s a simple indoor drone that works outdoors and comes with a couple of features I think you’ll like. It’s a more traditional drone that isn’t as extensive, so let’s get to the good parts.

  • Has a 720p HD camera with WiFi FPV real-time transmission in 1280×720 HD resolution and 2MP still photos
  • Features 1-Key Takeoff, 1-Key Landing, 360-Degree Flip, Low Battery Alarm, Altitude Hold, Custom Route Mode and Headless Mode
  • Has a maximum transmission range of up to 320 feet
  • Takes a 3.7V 500mAh LiPo battery
  • Uses a 2.4GHz transmission frequency with 4 channels
  • Has a total flight time of between 7 to 8 minutes
  • What I like most about the U45W Blue Jay by Force1 is that it comes with a 4 GB SanDisk Micro SD card, card reader, and a spare battery. You get all of this, plus the drone and what it can do, of course, for only $100.

What I don’t like, however, is that it takes between 90 to 120 minutes to charge a battery, which is a pretty long time when you compare it to the 7 to 8 minutes of flight you get.

    FAQ About Indoor Drones

If you don’t see an answer to your question listed below in my FAQ section, let me know and I’ll do my best to give you one!

    What is an indoor drone?

An indoor drone is a drone that can be flown inside your home. Often enough, you’ll find that an indoor drone is also able to fly outdoors, as well. They are usually smaller in size, with the majority of them being nano and micro drones, that are a blast to fly around small rooms in your home!

What are indoor drones good for?

Indoor drones are good for learning how to fly and control a drone. Because they usually come at a cheap price, typically under $200 for a decent one, they’re great for teaching yourself how to fly a drone before you invest the big bucks into a more professional one that costs double, if not triple, what you paid for the indoor one.

Do I need to register my indoor drone?

Nope! If you’re only going to be flying your indoor drone inside of your home, you don’t have to worry about registering it with the FAA. Keep in mind, however, if it comes with a camera, you are not allowed to sell any footage you’ve taken, whether it’s a video or photos, unless you are registered even if you’re only flying it indoors and not outside.

Do indoor drones need propeller guards?

Absolutely. If you’re flying indoors, there’s a big chance you’re going to crash into a wall, the ceiling, furniture, etc. Propeller guards are made and used to protect the propellers on a drone, so believe me when I tell you that using them with an indoor drone is pretty important to the well being of your drone in case you crash into something.
