Best Drones Under 300 USD – Top 5 Drones to Buy Under 300

Everyone has a budget they stick to these days, whether it’s out of necessity or they’re happy with that amount. Budgeting your money when buying groceries, for example, is fairly simple, but what about when you’re buying a drone? Because there are so many options to choose from, how do you find the best drone under 300 USD that will suit your needs and wants to the letter?

Just because a drone is under 300 USD, in no way does that mean you’ll be disappointed or let down. There are a large number of inexpensive drones out there that hit the bigger, more expensive boys straight out of the park.

Even though there are a ton of price ranges when it comes to drones, in this review we’ll be sticking strictly to the best drones under 300 USD. The drones I have listed here are my all-time favorites for our budget range.

The Best Drones Under 300 USD

Without further ado, let’s dig into the best part of the review – the drone reviews themselves! For this review, I decided not to rank each drone listing based on personal favoritism, so browse and make a purchase as you see fit.

The BlackHawk by Altair Aerial comes in at a measly $129, an enlightening price for a drone that seems to have it all! This one has a special place in my heart, and my top pick for one of the best drone under 300 with camera, for many reasons.

  • Long Range & Flight Time Drone with Camera Mount
  • Uses brushless motor technology for less vibration and noise in video footage
  • Has a total flight time of up to 15 minutes, doubled with the extra free battery included
  • Features High and Low Speed Modes
  • Takes a 1800mAh LiPo battery
  • Uses a 2.4GHz transmission frequency
  • Has a maximum transmission range of up to 1640 feet upward and 500 meters away
  • GoPro Hero3 and Hero 4 Compatible
  • What I love most about the BlackHawk by Altair Aerial is no doubt the fact that you can use your own camera! You rarely ever see a drone like this, if ever at all, if I’m being honest.

I’m not so keen on the GoPro point, however. According to a couple of users, it’s super easy mounting their GoPro in the Action Camera mount.

Parrot AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition – Snow

The AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition in the color scheme of Snow by Parrot is an absolute masterpiece. It’ll only cost you $115, way below our 300 USD budget, and is an extremely attractive drone. I love the look of the Snow version quite a bit.

  • Uses a tablet or a smartphone for either Android or iOS instead of a physical transmitter using the AR Free Flight piloting app
  • Has a 720p HD camera with real-time video streaming and recording functions straight to your tablet or smartphone during flight and 800MHz video
  • Has a 2.0 high-speed USB port for extensions
  • Able to upload your photos and videos and share them directly on Facebook, YouTube, and other social media platforms
  • Has a total flight time of up to 12 minutes
  • Takes a 1000mAh LiPo battery
  • Has a maximum transmission range of up to 50 meters
  • Uses a 3-axis gyro stabilization system
  • What I like most about the AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition in Snow by Parrot is that you’re able to upload your footage instantly to your social media platforms. Other drones have this function, true, but this one practically makes the videos and posts them on YouTube for you, which is a rare platform used with immediate footage sharing in drones.

What I don’t like, however, is the number of limited features. There aren’t too many to play around with, which is a little disappointing.

Although, if you’re a blogger or a “vlogger” on YouTube or other video social media platforms, you’ll love this one.

    Hubsan H501S X4

The H501S X4 by Hubsan is a super cool quadcopter that gives you double for what you’ll pay for it, which is approximately $197, to be exact. Despite its mini price tag, it’s one of my top picks for the best FPV drone under 300 out there for those on a strict budget with little wiggle room.

  • Has a 1080p HD camera that allows for 5.8GHz real-time FPV feed
  • Features Automatic Return to Home, Altitude Mode, Headless Mode, Normal Mode, Expert Mode, Follow Me and Fall In Takeoff Point
  • Uses a built-in GPS navigation system that lock’s the position of the drone so it can hover where you want
  • Has a total flight time of up to 20 minutes
  • Uses a 6-axis gyro stabilization system
  • Takes a 7.4V 2700mAh LiPo battery
  • Uses a 5.8GHz transmission frequency with 6 channels
  • Has a maximum transmission range of up to 300 meters
  • Uses brushless motors for less vibration and noise in video footage
  • What I love the most about the H501S X4 by Hubsan is the money to value ratio. It’s a smart purchase because it comes with a ton of features, 5.8GHz transmission, and is able to fly for up to 20 minutes without breaking the bank. Amazing, right?

Unfortunately, what I don’t love about it is the fact that quite a few users have reported issues with the transmitter’s screen. For example, one user reported that it’ll go completely black if it goes slightly out of range, which is a serious, frustrating issue.

    3DR Solo

I’d like to mention right away that the Solo by 3DR I’ll be reviewing below is the one without the gimbal installed, so you’ll have to purchase that separately if you want it. If you’re only purchasing the quadcopter itself, you’re looking at a price range of around $230, making it one of the more expensive options in my review.

  • Powered by identical 1 GHz computers
  • Features Smart Shots, Orbit, Follow Me, Cable Cam, Selfie and GPS Mode
  • Has a maximum transmission range of up to half of a mile
  • Compatible with GoPro models HERO3+ and HERO4 (if you have the gimbal)
  • Uses a pre-bound transmitter or a mobile app through your smartphone, tablet, etc.
  • Has a total flight time of between 15 to 20 minutes
  • It’s no secret that the Solo by 3DR is one of the best drones under 300 USD, even if it doesn’t rank as one of the best camera drone under 300 USD unless you have a GoPro mounted and the gimbal.

However, what I don’t like is the fact that a scarily high number of users have reported that dealing with the manufacturer is an absolute nightmare. Apparently, their customer service is seriously lacking in all departments, so hopefully, you don’t have an issue that requires their help if you make the purchase.

    BLADE 180 QX

For those who have a little bit of wiggle room where your 300 USD budget is concerned, you’re going to fall in love with the 180 QX by BLADE. It costs approximately $304, just scraping over our budget.

  • Equipped with exclusive SAFE technology
  • Uses the E-flite EFC 721 camera paired with transmitter functionality
  • Able to fly both indoors and outside because of its small size
  • Has a lightweight yet durable airframe
  • Features 3 Flight Modes, High Angle Mode and Low Angle Mode
  • Requires a compatible DSMX 5+ channel transmitter for switching between recording videos and capturing still photos
  • Has a maximum transmission range of up to 150 feet
  • Uses the AS3X stability system
  • Has a total flight time of between 8 to 10 minutes
  • I really like the 180 QX by BLADE because it’s a simple yet extensive quadcopter that can be flown inside your home and outdoors. Perfect for scratching the itch of flying a drone on days the weather is bad!

What I don’t like, unfortunately, is that some users have mentioned the battery pack sometimes doesn’t want to stay in its assigned seat, which can cause a major problem during flight if it pops out completely.
